Important Cyber Alert

Law firms and businesses have been targets of cyber attacks, including bad agents who send fraudulent emails containing their own bank account details requesting a deposit or a payment.  This can lead to clients losing their money.

When we invoice you for our services rendered, we recommend calling us to confirm bank account details ahead of making any payment.

This is to protect you and your  business. We are in the business of helping keep you safe.

You must:

  • not transfer (send, deposit, pay or transfer) more than $10,000 Australian dollars or its equivalent in any other currency (or give any funds transfer information to anyone else) without first telephoning the apparent original sender to verbally confirm the account number, details and amounts by reading out and reading back the account, BSB and invoice reference numbers (or other specific payment details where applicable) and confirming any instructions, and

  • give the same instructions and warnings to anyone else known to be connected to the matter (for example other executive, management, accountant, agents, brokers or Accounts Payable team members) and anticipated to be involved in approving, transferring or receiving any funds or funds transfer information.

If you suspect fraud or a bad agent, do not proceed with any transaction, payment or communication and refer the matter to The Station HQ immediately, your Information Technology and Security teams.

We recommend that you must also:

  • when calling to check payment details, only use a phone number for the apparent original sender which you have verified from a source that is different to the communication containing those details requesting payment. For example, you may contact The Station HQ via email and telephone, and you may check the original Client Engagement Agreement for our details

  • contact the sender to check legitimacy before you open any attachment or click on any hyperlinks or download buttons in unexpected emails

  • contact us immediately if in any doubt about emails or any other electronic communications that appear to have come from a representative of The Station HQ or The Station HQ.

If in doubt, there is no harm in checking with us. We appreciate a cyber-safety-first mindset.

We will never:

1. ask for advance payment on any matter whatsoever, or

2. change our bank account details without first contacting you through multiple verification methods, including in writing and by telephone.

These requirements will help keep you and your business safe from cyber threats.

If you have any questions about our position on cyber safety, please reach out to us.
